Having transparency in government is a difficult concept for some people to grasp. Many people think that it’s a bad idea to allow the average person know what’s going in any organization. The outsider could bring out some secret that could bring down the whole company! But if you are doing everything legit and by the book, what could you possibly be afraid of?

One teenager capitalized on this old concept of transparency and was able to win a spot in his local government. Not just any spot, he became the Mayor! “[The] key to his platform that resonated with voters was openness of government and keeping citizens better informed of city operations” (CNN-politics.com). Imagine that! Letting taxpayers know where their money is going and what the city officials are doing with it!

As Christians we should be very open in our dealings with each other. When we attempt to work behind closed doors it only leaves us open for speculation by friends and foes alike. We are to be lights to the world, not candles under the table.
